Cody Rhodes made his big debut in WWE at Wrestlemania 38. He won against one of the biggest modern WWE stars Seth Rollins. But was it a safe move for him to leave AEW for WWE? Cody helped in the creation of AEW, he was one of the four EVPs along with Young Bucks and Kenny Omega.
During his AEW run, Cody took every opportunity to criticize or bury WWE. He always said things like “We are not like the other company”, “We are pro wrestling, not sports entertainment”. Among all the EVPs it was Cody who created the “Us vs Them” mentality.
But yet, he is the one who is the hypocrite and moves to WWE. Was it only for the money? There were other things that he is not talking about?
Briefly discuss Cody Rhodes AEW run
Yeah, Cody was one of the founders of AEW. Will have to give him credit for that. But what happened after that? Cody kept screwing up his own booking in AEW right from the beginning. Just when AEW started he put himself in the title picture against Jericho. Then he announces that he will never compete for the AEW world champion. He then creates a mid-card belt, the TNT title, and makes himself champion. Then he keeps on making the TNT title about him. He was constantly taking the spotlight. Same stupid long 20 minutes matches where he wins in the end. Defending the TNT title against random indy opponents and jobbers, instead of giving AEW talents the chance. He also had to have 20 minutes matches with jobbers will War Horse, Joey Jenella, and Sonny Kiss.
He took every opportunity. He got his own reality show on TNT, which was absolutely awful and exposed the wrestling business. He was a host of a game show on tbs. He got involved with storylines with celebrities like Shaq, Snoop Dog, etc. Mainly he wanted the spotlight to be on himself whether he was a champion or not. Whenever a new WWE guy debuted he wanted a match against them, 50-50 booking.
His entrance was over the top, he used 50% of the pyros for himself. The weird woman singing at the beginning of his entrance theme. After having a feud with random opponents like QT, Ogogo Cody disappeared from the tv so he could do his reality show.
When the crowd saw all this BS and started booing him, then he made an even bigger mess of his bookings. He was basically the mirror image of Jeff Jerret in TNA.
Let’s talk about Cody’s wife Brandi Rhodes
Brandi is annoying and has no talent as a wrestler or in-ring competitor. Over the years while she was in AEW she found any opportunity possible to wriggle into prime tv time. Whatever she did was awful whether as a face or heel. Thanks to her we got awful stuff such as Nightmare collective, Nightmare Sisters. She just wanted to be on tv. Whenever she was on tv it was cringy and I had to reach for the remote.
Was it the right decision by Cody to leave AEW for WWE?
In my opinion, it was not only a good thing for Cody but also for AEW. Cody has no idea how to book himself into a star, WWE will do a better booking for him. Plus he got a huge 3-4 million dollar contract for signing with WWE.
It will also be a good thing for AEW as they do not have to deal with all the Cody and Brandi BS.
